Wave of Change Jacket Rhinebeck Meetup 2020

Saturday, Oct 17th at 10AM Pacific / 1PM Eastern

This joyous photo depicts our last Meetup at Rhinebeck. Can we do it again, only this time virtually? Please join us!

When: Saturday, Oct 17th, 2020 at 10 AM PST / 1 PM EST for one hour.

Where: Zoom! You will receive a Zoom link and passcode after registration.

How: This event is now complete and tickets can no longer be purchased.

Why: The Wave of Change Jacket gets its name from the purl ridges that create concentric rings around the body. The name also references the last year of change in the fiber community. We collectively became more aware, more woke. I believe every human feels the need to be included and valued. As we transition into a new decade, my hope is that we can become a more compassionate community where we focus on our common humanity, rather than our differences. Then we can create a space where kindness is the norm and everyone is welcome.

In that spirit, this pattern was designed to be gender-neutral and size-inclusive. No single garment can fit every body, but I have included tips to help you customize the pattern to fit your body. I hope that you feel pride when making and wearing it. In my dreams, this jacket will become an emblem of our collective wish to create a lasting wave of change in the maker community, the fashion industry, and in the world. ⁣

Thank you for allowing me to share my vision and my hopes and dreams through design.

3 Craft Wall Hanging Workshop

to Sep 19

3 Craft Wall Hanging Workshop

Part 1 - Friday, September 18th at 11am - 1:30pm Pacific / 2pm - 4:30pm Eastern

Part 2 - Saturday, September 19th at 12pm - 2:30pm Pacific / 3pm - 5:30pm Eastern

In this class, we will make a wooly wall hanging that blurs the line between the fiber arts. If you’ve been admiring lace knitting but are intimidated by tiny needles and fine lace yarn, in this class we will learn intermediate lace knitting skills using bulky yarn and larger needles. We will attach the knitting to a macrame hoop using a crochet hook and use traditional macrame knots to decorate the wall hanging fringe. The result will be a modern macrame-style wall hanging that you can proudly display in your home and make as gifts. Students will receive the custom pattern for the Modern Wall Hanging AND the pattern on which it is based, the Moving Forward Wrap!

Students will also receive a class curriculum after registration that includes supplies needed.

Register here: https://peacetreefiberadventures.com/register-retreats%2Fclasses/ols/products/wall-hanging-workshop-parts-1-2-918-and-919

This class is appropriate if you have experience with Knit/purl, cast on and bind off. Increases are helpful but will be demonstrated. Absolute beginners welcome for crochet and macrame!

Part 1 is Sept 18th and Part 2 is Sept 19th. We will learn/create the entire project in the two sessions.

Moving Forward Wrap Knit Along Cast On Party!

Friday, Sept 11th at 5PM Pacific / 8pm Eastern

The Moving Forward Wrap is shaped like a large arrow. I designed it during a time of personal transition when I had to make important and difficult decisions in order to move my life forward. I think working on this project as a community might help us move through 2020’s many layers of pain, loss, grief, illness, anxiety, loneliness, and uncertainty. Does this sound like your experience? You’re not alone.⁣ Many of us also live in areas where Shelter-In-Place orders are still active. Physical isolation does not have to be emotional isolation! Let's use this project as a means of craft therapy that produces a beautiful arrow-shaped wrap we can all wear as a sign of resilience. Please share this with a friend you think could use some community support.

The wrap is knit with fingering weight yarn. The original sample was knit using @avfkw Flock, and was published in their 2019 lookbook. You can also stash-bust, as the wrap has 5 sections that we will be working on over 5 weeks! We will have occasional check-ins over Zoom to ensure we stay on track and help each other move forward, not only with this project but in life too.
